So I've just finished my first uni project of 3rd year... and I can't remember the last time I had a proper night's sleep. Rest is on the cards, I think, but I'm already desperate to get going on something new!
For now, here's a quick peek at my last project. I made an interactive piece of work: a multi-stranded narrative with sliding tabs that can be pulled to reveal images, but below is a plan of how the work fits together, and an example of one of the finished images :)

:)...

Practicing a bit.

Here's a couple of studies of my friend Lucy... she doesn't know about this yet... it's possible she will kill me. Let's hope not :P. I promise I don't do her justice!

Long time, no see...

Hello,

It's been a while since I've posted anything new. Had a hectic month or so moving back to uni and starting final year. I'm exhausted already! Anyway, here's a scribble I've been working on. It's watercolour, pencil and digitally tinkered with.

Hope you like!

Photos...

Alright, so it's not strictly illustration, but I couldn't resist!
A few days ago I found an old disposable camera lurking in the bottom of a drawer. Out of curiosity, I took it to town to be developed, and the result was some lovely little photos of a holiday in Crete, probably taken about 6 years ago. I love the grainy quality to them, which you don't get with digital photography, and the fact that looking through them was like traveling back through time.
Here's a few below.

Potaaato potato potato...

I've moved on a little with the potato printing, trying to apply it to some little pencil drawings.
I like how these have turned out, particularly the first one- I think the texture's pretty cool.
I've used watercolours to print with (I know, I know!) but I like the subtlety of the colour, which was difficult to achieve when I was using acrylics.
I'm now trying to come up with a context in which to use some of these little prints. The messiness that comes from the process makes the characters look innocent, scruffy, a bit like young teenagers? I might try and use that.
Hmm, I've got some thinking to do.

New Header...

As you can see, the blog's just got a shiny new header :)
I whipped it together today, using a cute little potato print I did earlier- I won't post it down here as well, that'd just be silly.
I'm thinking of doing a set of these prints- maybe for business cards? Or stickers?
I'll keep you informed <3

EDIT: Decided to fiddle with the layout, as I've obviously got my technical head on today! Unfortunately, I'm still very much an amateur at all this, so I'm gonna stick with the changes and see whether I can cope with them indefinitely (or I might get a life, you never know :P).

Mixing it up a bit...

So, the second year Uni results are in.
Good, overall, but I've pretty much been told to Get Interesting. Sound advice, I think :)
The result of this was a messy day yesterday, using paint, fabric, potatoes and a few drawings out of my recent holiday sketchbook.
Nothing fantastic but a big step forward for me, as I drag myself kicking and screaming away from my precious watercolours!

Summer summer summer tiiiiimee...

Honestly, England, I don't recognise you. Where did all this beautiful weather come from??
So, a couple of quick water-colours done while sitting in the sunny garden last week.
I'm recently quite into these POV drawings (mainly inspired by the fact I've been on my own with no-one else to draw!) I think I'm going to do a whole little narrative based on this theme.
The hands are fairly awful, I'm afraid, as I made them up (my actual hands were rather preoccupied with the whole drawing thing :P).

Still life...

This is what happens when I'm left alone with only books and art supplies.
I don't usually go for the still life thing but, hey, it's all practice.

sketchbook scribbles...

Helloo.
It's the summer break so no more uni projects! But I have of course been scribbling away none-the-less.
Thought I'd post a few pages from my sketch book.

All very random stuff, I know. But it keeps me occupied :)
I'm currently working on a graphic short-story- I'll post something when there's something to post.

Final Bookmarks.

Morning!
So, here's a quick scan of my final 3 promotional bookmark designs:
 Crime, Romance and Fantasy.
They have been hidden in various books in both Waterstones stores in Plymouth city center. (I tried to match the genre of book loosely with the bookmark design, but may not have been entirely successful :P)
If you have found one, congratulations! I hope you like it. And a big thank you to those people who have already sent me lovely messages. It's much appreciated :)

Hey,

Here's an in-progress design for a set of Bookmarks I'm making for my next project. They're based on literary genres, and this one is 'Romance'...

Doodle doodle doodle...

Here's just a quick doodle that I watercoloured up while trying to gather some ideas for my next project.

For lack of a better title I will call it 'Straw-hat in the Rain'. :)

'Design for Screen'...

Here's an image from my most recent project 'Design for Screen'. The project itself was a bit of a nightmare, but I'm pleased I gave it a good go, and I did end up with a few nice bits and pieces in the end :)

It's ink and watercolour, although that's probably obvious. It's a shame that it loses some of the colour quality when scanned, but I am pleased with this image, to a degree.

'Love of Seven Dolls'...

Ooh wow, I'm actually posting work. Would ya look at that...
Below are the finished illustrations for my second brief of the year. I
had to illustrate the novella 'Love of Seven Dolls' by Paul Gallico. If you haven't
read it I highly recommend it, although you might have a job getting hold of it as it's out of print.
Still, great stuff.

New Scientist project...

Hello! Here is an example of the work I did for the first project of my second year. The brief was to design 2 spot illustrations and a cover for New Scientist magazine, to accompany an article about the psychology of religion. Not deep at all then. :P
